Ku-umba is an organisation that was set up five years ago to support the increase of the African people into Glasgow. The aim of the programme is to bring African films to the communities. There is now a large population of Africans living in Scotland; Film is a very good way to teach and communicate different ways of life to different people.
The purpose of the film screenings is:
* to educate
* introduce a different aspect to the local communities
* use the films as a learning tool.
* It will be something people can look forward to
* Film if used in the right form can be used as escapism and to bring people together while teaching about different cultures and aspects of life.
Should you require to do any film screenings in your town or city and need help and advice do not hesitate to contact us we are here for you. We aim to work with filmmakers from all over Africa and the Caribbean that do not get the opportunity to get their their work shown. This industry is very big very neglected for Hollywood reasons. For those of you that don't know, cinemas in Zimbabwe do not screen works by local filmmakers because they say nobody is going to come and watch but this has to change. It is only when you live in a different place that we start to realise the consequences of our actions.
Support the website and support our industry. I hope that I will be able to take my programmes and the content as they are to Zimbabwe to help start the re-development. My partner in work Marlon Palmer Kush Films believes the same and he is a British Jamaican, he has been a mentor and friend thanks a lot man. Lets go home to Africa si!!
